After hearing Dr. Maki's thoughts regarding the "Wakon Sakura" project, I set out to incorporate a sense of "Wa" or "social harmony" on my tin canvas through images of cherry blossoms. I hope this work will inspire a feeling of familiarity and calm among the patients and staff.

In the spring of 2014, I met my old classmate, who is the president of Tashiro Alloy. I visited his showroom, where I was astonished to see beautiful works of art made of tin, forged with traditional Japanese images like plum blossoms and chrysanthemums. My classmate had wanted me to see these creations as he felt they portrayed the essence of Japanese culture -"Omotenashi" and "Wa".

After saying goodbye and returning home, I still could not get the image of those beautiful creations out of my mind. I thought how wonderful it would be to have such art work in my hospital.

Cherry blossoms, the national flower of Japan, have always held a special place in my heart. My hospital is surrounded by cherry trees and every year, my patients and staff enjoy their beauty and fragrance.

I have always felt that my work requires a high level of skill and efficiency, but at the same time, an element of spirituality. It is this feeling of spirituality that I felt when I saw those unique artistic creations and so, I decided to commission Mr. Tachibana to create a cherry blossom version for my hospital.

"Wakon Sakura" is now a part of our daily lives at the hospital and gives pleasure to all who gaze upon it. It continues to inspire me in my work and my life.
